Despite being announced on April 1, it seems the upcoming Darkest Dungeon DLC The Butcher's Circus will really bring PVP to the game. One aspect that Darkest Dungeon and Dark Souls do not share is PVP, but that is apparently changing. It's a mix of frustrating and exhilarating when things finally go right that has a similar appeal to Dark Souls. The game is a slow wade through powerful enemies and a stress meter that constantly threatens to unravel the player's fighters even as they continue to miss enemies despite having a better than average chance to hit. The game proved so strong and so enduring through several DLC releases, that there is a Darkest Dungeon sequel on the way sometime in the future, although there is not yet a release date set.įor those unfamiliar, Darkest Dungeon sees a series of unlucky, glory seeking heroes roll up to a haunted hamlet to try and destroy the terrible evil lurking there. Easily one of the bigger indie hits of its year, Darkest Dungeon has persisted among fans of hardcore difficulty RPGs thanks to its permadeath and stress systems.
